Take on a hike in the magnificent grounds of Harewood House!
Explore one of Yorkshire's most breathtaking estates with the West Yorkshire Trail Hike, a scenic walking and hiking challenge set around the magnificent 18th-century Harewood House. With three distances available: Half Marathon (21k), 13k or 8k this event offers an inspiring outdoor experience for walkers and hikers of all levels.
Your adventure begins along the peaceful Wall Side Plantation, where woodland paths guide you gently upwards to Sugar Hill. From here, you'll be treated to sweeping views across the sprawling estate, rolling parkland, and the Yorkshire countryside beyond.
The route continues towards the well-known Emmerdale filming set, a unique highlight that brings a touch of Yorkshire culture to your hike. From there, the trail leads to the impressive Eccup Reservoir, West Yorkshire's largest body of water. This serene, wildlife-rich stretch offers expansive views and a perfect moment to enjoy the calm of the countryside.
The return journey winds through Carr Plantation and Piper Wood, an enchanting network of woodland trails filled with towering trees, birdsong, and vibrant seasonal colours. Passing by Harewood's tranquil lakeside, you'll enjoy one last moment of serenity before the finish line welcomes you back to the heart of this beautiful estate.
Every participant receives a high-quality medal, finisher's goodies, and a refreshing drink, the perfect celebration after completing this unforgettable Yorkshire hiking challenge.
The Harewood House Hiking Event is not just a hike; it's an unforgettable experience that combines the joy of walking with the splendour of nature.

Please note that you will also find Trail Runners taking part in events on the day.
Please state on the booking form the distance you wish to do.
The routes are open to participants aged 17 and over. They also welcome participants aged 12-16, provided they are accompanied by a participating adult throughout the event, with a 3:1 child: adult ratio.
A parent or guardian must sign up any under-18s who wish to take part.
Please also note that if you are signing up more than one person, you are limited to just 3, so if there are more than 3 of you, you will need to complete multiple bookings.
On the day
Please note that this is not a guided walk, but it will be clearly signed using PINK arrows and PINK tape. They will also mark hazards and road junctions with 'Caution' signs. Please take care at these points.
You will collect a hiking bib number on arrival at the event. Bib numbers should be displayed clearly on the front of you.
Event timings:
7:30 am* - Venue Opens
The car park opens to allow hikers to prepare themselves for the hike and grab a coffee.
8:30 AM* - All Hiking Distances Start!
The hike kicks off as the walkers cross the start line.
2:00 pm* - The Hike Finishes / Cut-off Time
Your adventure finishes, you will cross the finish line and collect your bag full of goodies.
2:30 pm* - The Event Centre Closes
The venue closes.
* PLEASE NOTE: Times may be adjusted for logistical reasons.
It's a plastic-free event, so please take a reusable cup/bottle for use at the water stations.
First Aid support will be available at the on-course aid stations and the event centre.
Spectators are always welcome at the West Yorkshire Hiking Trail.

Due to the nature of the event, pushchairs, buggies and wheelchairs are not permitted.
Please note that no dogs are allowed on the hikes. Spectators may bring dogs, though.
