Adult Services Team (25+)

If you are aged 26 or over, and living with SB, H or associated conditions, our Adult Services Team is dedicated to supporting you with what matters most to you - this could be around your physical or emotional wellbeing or practical support connected to your home or financial situation.

Shine supports more than 9,000 adult members across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We understand that every person's experience is different. You may contact us for help with housing, benefits, employment or social care, or you may simply want to connect with people who understand the realities of living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, or normal pressure hydrocephalus. Our aim is to provide information, support, and opportunities that help you live the life you want to live.

Your First Contact with Shine

When you get in touch with Shine, our First Contact Team will often be your first point of contact. Whether you are newly diagnosed, returning to Shine after many years, supporting a family member, or seeking advice on a particular issue, the team is here to offer a welcoming and knowledgeable service and help you find the right support.

The team responds to enquiries by phone, email, website and social media, ensuring you receive accurate information and timely assistance. They work closely with colleagues across Shine to connect you with the people, services and resources best placed to meet your needs.

For many members, the First Contact Team provides the reassurance that they do not have to face challenges alone. Every enquiry is handled with care, professionalism and understanding.

National Manager: Adult Services (25+)

Our Adult Services Team is led by our National Manager for Adult Services, who oversees services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. They ensure that the support available to you remains responsive to the needs of adult members while working closely with healthcare professionals, partner organisations and colleagues across Shine.

The National Manager leads the development of new services, oversees adult safeguarding, and helps ensure we continue to deliver high-quality support that improves health, social and emotional wellbeing. They also help shape the future of our adult services and create new opportunities for you to engage with Shine.

Support and Development Workers

Our Support and Development Workers are often the people you will speak to when you need more individual support. Based across different regions, they provide one-to-one information, advice and guidance tailored to your circumstances.

They can help you access benefits, health services, employment support, housing and social care, while also offering practical assistance during periods of change or challenge. They attend specialist clinics, work alongside healthcare professionals, and can help you navigate complex systems and services.

They also create opportunities for you to connect with others through peer support groups, social activities, online communities and events. These connections can reduce isolation, build confidence and strengthen your sense of belonging within the Shine community.

Whatever challenges or opportunities life brings, Shine is here to help you feel informed, empowered and connected. Our goal is to support you to live well, achieve your goals and remain an active part of your community.
