Sophie and Autumn's Shine Story

I decided to fundraise for Shine after my daughter, Autumn was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at just 4 months old. Daisy from Shine called me, and she was the most incredible person. All the information I’ve received to help us learn about the condition since then, and what we can do to help Autumn as she grows up, has been incredible. Meeting other families through Shine has been appreciated by our family so much.

"I don’t know what I’d of done without those initial conversations with Shine."

In 2025, I completed the London Saucony 10k and Robin Hood Half Marathon in aid of Shine, and, most recently, I ran the Cambridge Half Marathon for Shine in April this year. Being part of these events has been so rewarding, and knowing exactly what the money goes towards is incredible. It’s great knowing families like ours can have the same support we had. I don’t know what I’d of done without those initial conversations with Shine.

"Anytime I’ve thought I couldn’t do it or I’ve wanted to give up, I think about how incredible my daughter is..."

Sharing Autumn’s story has been so motivating and made me want to push myself to do more to help raise as much awareness about this incredible charity. Anytime I’ve thought I couldn’t do it or I’ve wanted to give up, I think about how incredible my daughter is and that, after everything she’s been through, she deserves to have someone fighting her corner to raise as much awareness as possible.
