Hayley's Story

A donation to Shine goes a long way because Shine’s support is lifelong.

At whatever stage a diagnosis happens and however a Shine member’s conditions impact health, daily life, or long-term plans, Shine are here for anyone with spina bifida and hydrocephalus - and their families - at every milestone.

Fundraising and donations help make our work possible, and we are grateful to everyone who helps us to be there for our members every day. Fundraisers like Hayley, who decide to raise money to help Shine deliver our work as our membership continues to grow.

Hayley’s Shine Story

"I first encountered Shine in 2022. I had my shunt fitted later in life, and Shine helped me with the information and support I needed for this life-changing health issue. It was the hospital that told me there was a charity that could help, and I signed up to Shine as a member.

Later, I did a coffee morning and a ‘hats on’ spin class to help fundraise for the charity.

I wish more people understood how hydrocephalus affects people and how debilitating it can be to live with. The support you can receive from Shine is a massive help.

I wish more people understood how hydrocephalus affects people and how debilitating it can be to live with. The support you can receive from Shine is a massive help. To me, being a member of Shine means helping others and feeling supported. It helps me to know that there are other people with the same condition. I was feeling vulnerable and alone, but through Shine, I feel a part of a group.

Shine helped me with the information and support I needed…

Shine is important to so many people. I think it’s a great charity."
