Staff celebrating Shine's 60th anniversary - Rebecca's Story
Share
As part of Shine's 60th anniversary celebrations, some of our staff are taking on challenges this year!
Rebecca, from our Trusts and Foundations team, and members of her family are tackling the longest zip line in Europe!
"In August, 7 of us will be travelling to Wales to speed at 125mph 500ft above the ground over a whole mile to celebrate an 80th birthday. Since Shine is turning 60 in 2026, we thought we’d turn the birthday challenge into a fundraiser and see if we could raise some donations for Shine.
My mum has said for years that she wanted to do this zip line when she turned 80, and is so keen in fact that it was booked many months ago! She somehow talked some of us into joining her, and now her children and grandchildren will be with her, hurtling headfirst over a large quarry.
I work for Shine and have seen first hand what a difference the charity makes to people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. My colleagues help people to understand their conditions, talk to schools, colleges and employers about how learning is affected/reasonable adjustments, secure accessible housing and the right benefits and provide vital emotional reassurance. Their expertise and understanding help people to manage their lives so that they can get on with enjoying the things that really matter - family, careers, learning and leisure time.
I am proud to work for a charity that achieves so much year on year for the people it supports. And I absolutely hate heights, so raising funds for Shine’s 60th birthday is the reason I need to not back out at the last minute!"
Everyone here at Shine is cheering on Rebecca and her family as they tackle the longest zip line in Europe this August!
