Motability - a statement from Shine

We know that many of our members are worried about the impact of the recent updates to the Motability Scheme.

Shine too is concerned about the significant impact that these proposed changes to the Motability Scheme may have on our members’ mobility, independence and finances. For many disabled people and families affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus, access to a car (or other vehicles) is essential to everyday life.

Whilst we are pleased that access to Motability cars has not been removed entirely, we are concerned about affordability and reduced choice, particularly for those with complex mobility needs. We hope that there will be flexibility and discretion within the scheme, recognising that a one‑size‑fits‑all approach will not meet the needs of many disabled people.
